TARRAFAL DE MONTE TRIGO
SANTO ANTÃO
Tarrafal de Monte Trigo is a peaceful fishing village, located in the southwest of the island of Santo Antão, about 54 km from the city of Porto Novo, and is another paradise on the island that you should visit. In addition to being a peaceful and safe place, this fishing village offers its visitors a surprising contrast between its black sand beaches, natural pool, unusual lush mountain scenery, and even one of the most beautiful sunsets in Cape Verde, which are true golden hours.
Easy access only became a reality in February 2021, after the construction of the road, which journey takes around 1 hour and 30 minutes at most.
You will be dazzled along the journey that takes you through a unique road, carved between arid mountains and the vast Atlantic. And it will undoubtedly be an unforgettable trip where you will witness a wild nature with dramatic cliffs, volcanic slopes, impressive rock formations, and natural viewpoints offering breathtaking views. It is a road where the sky and the sea meet perfectly, and where the silence of nature invites contemplation.
You will also have the opportunity to stop for taking photos and also to contemplate the landscape and the majestic Topo de Coroa, the second highest mountain in Cape Verde and the highest on the island at approximately 1979 meters.
The main activities in the area are fishing, agriculture and in recent years there has been a gradual increase in the tourism sector.
The area offers great options for those who love hiking and even boat trips to or from to its neighboring fishing village Monte Trigo. Monte Trigo, due to the lack of an access road, remains somewhat isolated, and can be reached on foot, which can take up to 5 hours, or by fishing boat from Tarrafal, which takes 50 minutes. Both ways to get there are true and fun adventures.
In addition to being places of unique and natural beauty, they are both safe and peaceful.
Tarrafal and Monte Trigo are much more than just simple destinations – they are an experience, two pieces of the world that deeply touch those who allow themselves to explore them.
