Itinerary

Day 1- Trip from the island of São Vicente to the island of Santo Antão or pick up in the city of Porto Novo

Duration: 3-4 hours +/- 640metters 10-11km    Difficulty level: Medium to high

As soon as you arrive in the city of Porto Novo, our guide and our driver will be there waiting for you. You will be dropped of in Seldinha, where the walk will begin.

The hike from Seladinha to the beach is an experience that, in addition to being challenging, allows you to contemplate and connect with nature in its purest state. It is a route that, was very used by the residents of Covão before the construction of the cabblestone road.

The trail winds along the rugged west coast of Santo Antão. Along this hike, you will cross cliffs and volcanic rock formations and at the end, you will be amazed by the black sand beach that awaits you at the end of your hike.

It is an ideal route for those who, besides wanting to explore, seek to witness the perfect meeting between the arid mountains and the ocean.

Day 2- Hike from Tarrafal to Monte Trigo: A Hike between the Sea and The Mountain

Duration: 4-5 hours    7-9 km       Difficulty level: Medium to high

Our guide will pick you up early in the morning to avoid the sun, which is quite strong in these two villages. The walk between Tarrafal and Monte Trigo is another one you shouldn’t miss if you are a hiking lover.

This hike will give you the opportunity to marvel at a fascinating coastal trail, characterized by arid landscapes, deep silence, and a rare connection with the nature and history of the island of Santo Antão. It is a trail that, although short, requires some attention, as well as physical preparation and an adventurous spirit.

 This route takes you along a remote cliff-edge trail that hugs the rugged Atlantic coastline, offering stunning views, challenging paths and a deep immersion into the natural beauty of Santo Antão.

Your greatest reward at the end of this journey is Monte Trigo itself, a small village nestled between the sea and the base of an ancient volcanic cone. Monte Trigo is even more isolated than Tarrafal — a place where life follows the rhythm of nature, and where time seems to flow more slowly.

The local fishermen will be in charge of taking you back to Tarrafal de Monte Trigo by boat, which is a wonderful way to end your second day of adventure.

If you wish to spend the night at Monte Trigo, your luggage will be taken by boat to your accommodation.

Day 3 – A Taste of  the Local Life in Tarrafal de Monte Trigo

Duration: 2h -2h30  boat ride to the fishing spot and artisanal fishing materials

Your guide will take you to the beach, where the fishermen will have everything ready and will be waiting to take you to a place that will guarantee you catch many different types of fish.
This is a great opportunity to experience the daily lives of the sea masters of this fishing village and to contribute to the practice of fair, sustainable and authentic tourism.
In addition to learning techniques and secrets passed down from generation to generation, such as casting nets, fishing with hand lines and reading sea signs, you will hear fascinating stories about life at sea, told by the fishermen themselves.
In this experience, you will feel connected with the wisdom, resilience and hospitality of the people of Tarrafal de Monte Trigo. In addition to being a form of fair, responsible and authentic tourism practice.

Transfer back to Porto Novo after lunch.
